A BIT ABOUT ME

For me, teaching is a passion; I live and breathe it. Since 2003, I’ve provided students around the world with extensive private teaching services in a number of different fields. I take pride in teaching people who are eager to expand their minds, talents, and skills, and bring a depth of professional expertise to those who strive to excel.


I offer personalized lessons at affordable prices and use my specialized lessons to improve areas of difficulty. I also introduce students to new subjects, helping them advance to higher levels of understanding.


Bio:


After completing his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of New Hampshire, he spent two years in Kalamazoo, MI completing his Master of Music in jazz performance at Western Michigan University.


Nick now calls the Portsmouth, NH area home where he is an in demand teacher, performer, and clinician. Nick holds positions at Saint Anselm College, Pinkerton Academy, and Timberlane Regional Schools as well as teaching a large private studio of all ages including Skype students from around the globe.


Nick is also the Creator and Host of the critically acclaimed, 10 Minute Jazz Lesson Podcast where he spreads knowledge of jazz and improvisation to students the world over. Nick also hosts and runs the Everything Saxophone Podcast with his colleague, Donna Schwartz. Together, they interview top saxophonists from around the world and bring the joy of playing saxophone to all who listen.

Nick has recently published his first method book for saxophone, Comprehensive Saxophone Warm-Ups with the Mel Bay Publishing Company.

Nick also maintains an active performing career with many ensembles throughout New England and beyond.  Over the years Nick has been lucky enough to study and perform with some of the top musicians in the world including, Clark Terry, James Moody, Branford Marsalis, Donny McCaslin, Jimmy Heath, John Clayton, Ingrid Jensen, and Billy Pierce.


Nick maintains an active performance schedule in many ensembles listed below. 


The Soggy Po' Boys

This 7 piece, New Orleans inspired ensemble has taken New England by storm and is regularly playing throughout the area. After just completing their second full length record, they are set to spread their uniquely brassy sound to their local Dover, NH and beyond.

Sojoy

The brainchild of drummer/composer, Jonny Peifer, Sojoy is a chordless, little big band performing the brilliant compositions of Jonny. This ensemble pushes the boundaries of modern jazz and is tasked with bringing JOY to everyone who listens.

Jazzsputin And The Jug Skunks

Old-timey jazz fused with elements of bluegrass, free improvisation, and comedy

FTET

A jazz/not jazz quintet run by keyboardist, Mike Effenberger, this group plays everything from jazz standards to pop tunes arranged for the instrumentation.

The Volare Jazz Band

Nick is the director of this adult ensemble. They play community events and strive to bring jazz to the area of Southern New Hampshire in any way they can. This group is open to anyone proficient on their intsrument who has a desire to be part of a regularly rehearsing and performing group.
